Experiments concerning the influence of drinking hot-spring water upon the acidity and the pepsin unit of gastric juice have been conducted with normal gastric acid cases, using the hot-spring water of Suehiro of Nasu Spa, Tochigi Prefecture, and of Noji Spa, Fukushima Prefecture; the following conclusions have been reached as the result of observations of four examples of Suehiro and five examples of Noji:I. Iufluence of drinking the hot-spring water of Suehiro upon the acidity and the pepsin unit of gastric juice:1) Free muriatic acid:Less secretion of free muriatic acid is caused by drinking the hot-spring water of Suehiro than by drinking aqueous caffeine; however, the secretion of free muriatic acid by the former case is far greater than those caused by drinking aqua pura, 0.1g/dl aqueous aluminium sulphate and 0.1g/dl aqueous alum.2) Total acidity:Influence of drinking the hot-spring water of Suehiro upon the total acidity is similar to that of drinking aqueous caffeine; however the above both increases the total acidity by far than aqua pura, 0.1g/dl aqueous aluminium sulphate and 0.1g/dl aqueous alum.3) Pepsin unit:Drinking of the hot-spring water of Suehiro results in less pepsin units in gastric juice than aqua pura and aqueous caffeine; however, it results in more pepsin units than 0.1g/dl aqueous aluminium sulphate.II. Influence of drinking the 8-times diluted hot-spring water of Noji upon the acidity and the pepsin unit of gastric juice:1) Free muriatic acid:Influence of drinking the 8-times diluted hot-spring water of Noji is similar to that of drinking the ordinary service water; secretion of free muriatic acid by the former case is less than the case of drinking aqueous caffeine, but, greater than the cases of drinking 0.1g/dl aqueous aluminium sulphate and 0.1g/dl aqueous alum.2) Total acidity:There is no significant difference between the influences of the 8-times diluted hot-spring water of Noji and of the ordinary service water; however the former causes less total acidity than aqueous caffeine and more total acidity than 0.1g/dl aqueous aluminium sulphate and 0.1g/dl aqueous alum.3) Pepsin unit:No conclusion can be given here, as only one example has been experimented.
