Polarographic reduction of Rhodamin B has been carried out in Britton Robinson and Mcllvaine buffers. The value of n computed from experimentally determined D and subsequent application of llkovic equation and E<SUB>3/4</SUB>-E<SUB>1/4</SUB> values conclusively prove that the electrode process is irreversible. k, the rate constant, αnα the product of transfer coefficient and electrons involved in the activation process and δG≠ the energy of activation have been calculated. Attempts have also been made to estimate value of n<SUB>a</SUB> alone and to give mechanism of the electrode process.
