A. Experimental results
1. The action potentials of the urinary bladder in dog were recorded extracellulary. They consisted of various types of spike potentials, though slight differences were observed in electromyograms obtained from the different lead points.
2. After the denervation of the pelvic nerve in both sides, the frequency and amplitude of spike potential were reduced markedly and the complete recovery could not be obtained even after 6 weeks of denervation. But in cases in which the nerve in one side was cut, the complete recovery was obtained after 6 weeks.
3. In normal bladder, the increase in spike frequency was observed with the increase of capacity of the urinary bladder (inflation of the urinary bladder)
4. Atropine and TTFD caused the increases of frequency and amplitude of the spike potential, but pilocarpine depressed them.
B. Clinical results
The action potential recorded at the point 1 cm inner from the orifice of the right ureter showed the frequency 7.5imin., the amplitude 0.21 mV and the duration 0.24 second in the average. The electromyographms of the human urinary bladders after the operation of the uterine cervical cancer were classified into three types, which served to presume the recovering degree of of the bladder functions after operation and the degree of the damage of Supplied nerve. In these cases, TTFD was effective in increasing the frequency and amplitude of the action potential, and its prolongation of the activity.
