A new method to measure or control the magnetic field intensity by means of a cathode-ray tube is proposed. The principle is based on the simple fact that the magnetic field intensity is in proportion to the electric field intensity when they are impressed on a cathode-ray beam perpendicularly with one another so as to keep the beam in a definite path. This idea may be applied, for example, to the scanning or the mass marking device for a mass spectrometer. Preliminary experiments and its results are presented.
