Today many universities and academic institutes are building databases to provide information on their academic achievements. The construction of the database has become an important research-supporting activity, because such databases are frequently used for research and to evaluate research. Since most academic achievements are presented in the form of books and journal articles, the database tends to be a bibliographic database. This means that database construction requires bibliographic knowledge which is a librarians' expertise. This paper introduces the academic achievement database of the School of Medicine of Keio University and explains the role of the Medical and Information Media Center in database construction.
