Although medical literatures never occupy a large part of the government publications, they are important sources in the medical field. But it is difficult for them to be searched in medical abstracts, indexes or book catalogs. Therefore medical librarians should get familiar with, and try to make good use of them. In this point of view the author states the general aspects of the Japanese government publications--definition, types, actualities of publication, white papers and statistics as features, distribution, reference materials, location, etc-- and the phase of medical information they include. A list of their medical information sources is also added.
