The survey was conducted to find a current situation of interlibrary loan services in the member libraries of the Japan Medical Library Association (JMLA). The eighty-seven member libraries were sent the questionaire concerning their amount of services and daily operations in 1982, and the returned answers were filled 100 percent. JMLA which was started in 1927, made a considerble contribution to supply literatures or their photocopies among the libraries including libraries outside JMLA.Several results were summarized as follows; (1) JMLA member libraries processed about 433, 000 interlibrary loan requests, of which the lending requests were about 275, 000 and the borrowing requests were about 158, 000 in the total JMLA network, (2) 93 percent of the total interlibrary loan requests processed by the medical libraries and only 7 percent by the dental libraries, (3) some 936, 000 requests in total were processed by Japanese university libraries, and about a half the number of the requests were supplied by JMLA member libraries, (4) lists ranked by the numbers of lending and borrowing requests processed by the member libraries were prepared, and there were found the five libraries ranked high in lending service which were supplied 22 percent of the total JMLA lending requests. And, actual matters of interlibrary loan procedures were reviewed, as to problems on payments on photocopy service charges, on difficulties of speedy services because of separate controls of literatures in various department of many national schools, on verification efforts of bibliographic citations in requests, on clean photo-enlargements of micro-materials of periodicals back issues, on services for pharmaceutical companies and those copyright restrictions, and on large work loads for bookkeepings of the services.
