In our medical library, rough guidance for making good use of a medical library has been given to graduate students since 1965.Orientation and instruction in how to use the medical library are given by the director and staff members of our library at the beginning of the new term. However, it is not easy to catch up with the present increase in information on medical science. In view of this, therefore, a new plan for training users has been put into effect since 1984. The main purpose of this plan is to train graduate student users by teaching them how to search for the journals they need by using medical abstracts, indexes (e. g., Index Medicus, Excerpta Medica, Igaku-Chuo-Zasshi, etc.), and on-line bibliographical systems. With this, we hope that they can work independetly in the library without too much help from the librarians. We report here the results of our new plan and comment on future developments.
