The Japan Medical Library Association started in 1927 with five libraries. The Association has developed into a large organization with a membership of 101 in 1987. To understand the process of this development, I drew up a graph of its growing membership. The resulting curve indicated that the Association is expected to go on increasing its membership. But if the Association makes no attempt to find member libraries among new groups of libraries which need help from the Association, it may cease to be operative. We have to find clear answers to problems that face the Association.
