A few secondary sources for nursing were examined to see how Japanese nursing journals are covered in regard e. g., to time lag, average number of indexing terms and how they are indexed. The results were as follows: 1) International Nursing Index: The time lag was 8-9 months, the average number of indxing terms per article was 2.22 and indexing was almost satisfactory but some improper indexing terms were found. 2) Igaku Chuo Zasshi: The time lag was 8 months, the average number of indexing terms per article was 1.21, the present method for indexing had too many problems, and a number of articles had been omitted. 3) Other secondary sources also were not complete. No satisfactory domestic secondary source for nursing could be found.
