International Medical Information Center (IMIC) has provided a drug information database in Japan named SELIMIC (Side Effect Literature in IMIC) since 1994. The data consists of general names and trade names of drugs, route of administration, drugs used concomitantly, keywords and bibliography. The SELIMIC database is produced quickly and comprehensively by searching articles about adverse effects, poisonings, toxicities and drug interactions from approximately 1300 Japanese journals, and is indexed accurately and precisely in accordance with Japanese regulation: Good Post Marketing Surveillance Practice (GPMSP). These data are available from the Internet (URL http://www.imic.or.jp/), as a monthly issue, and/or as a weekly alert literature service. This paper describes the outline of SELIMIC database, and its problems and prospects for the future.
