In Japan, China, Taiwan, and South Korea, bibliographic facilities are mainly used by university libraries. These facilities consist of the National Institute of Informatics (NII) in Japan, the China Academic Library & Information Service (CALIS) in China, the National Bibliographic Information Network (NBINet) in Taiwan, and the Korea Education and Research Information Service (KERIS) in South Korea. In this report, the four bibliographic facilities in Asia are compared with regard to their main bibliographic and information services. Several problems faced by the NII, are also addressed. (1) Bibliographic services: The main bibliographic services are union catalogs and inter-library loans (ILL). The NII has the largest number of bibliographic records and ILLS of all four facilities. (2) Information services: Recently, bibliographic facility initiative has enabled the joint purchase of foreign databases and electronic journals. However, the NII is not involved with this initiative, and the NII's existing database is poor. Today, bibliographic services are being transformed into information services. Consequently, the NII is reassessing the needs of participating libraries.
