Hückel's π-binding energy, <I>E</I><SUB>π</SUB>, in hydrocarbons is found to be parallel to Kier's molecular connectivity index, χ. In either class of hydrocarbons, alternant or non-alternant, the regression analysis reveals a highly significant linear correlation between <I>E</I><SUB>π</SUB> and <SUP>1</SUP>χ<SUP>v</SUP> (the first order valence connectivity index).
