The enthalpy-entropy relationship of activation was subjected to discussion in connection with the alkaline hydrolysis of 10 barbituric acids. The extrathermodynamic linear equation was derived by using several parameters; the dissociation constant (p<I>K</I>), the <SUP>13</SUP>C shift value [δ<SUB>c</SUB>(5)] at the 5-position of the ring, and/ or the molecular connectivity index (χ).
