• Sound velocity and density measurements for H<SUB>2</SUB>O and D<SUB>2</SUB>O solutions of hexamethylphosphoric triamide (HMPT), [(CH<SUB>3</SUB>)<SUB>2</SUB>N]<SUB>3</SUB>PO at 25 °C have been carried out. The concentration dependence of the molar volumes and adiabatic compressibilities calculated therefrom are interpreted in terms of the water structure. The differences found between the H<SUB>2</SUB>O and D<SUB>2</SUB>O solutions are similarly explained.
