• The diazotization of 3-substituted 2-amino-1<I>H</I>-phenalen-1-ones (substituents=Cl, Br, PhS, or OH) gave 2-diazo-1<I>H</I>-phenalene-1,3(2<I>H</I>)-dione. It is most probable that the reaction involves the intramolecular rearrangement of a transient diazohydroxide intermediate and the consequent elimination of the substituent at the 3-position.
