<I>N</I>-Oxaloglycine obtained from a glyoxylic acid and ammonia mixture was allowed to produce various α-amino acids under UV irradiation using an alkylating agent such as an olefin in the presence of acetone as the initiator. Aspartic acid, norvaline, valine, leucine, phenylalanine, and tyrosine were identified by TLC, amino acid analysis, GC, and GCMS techniques.
