A spectrophotometric study of the reaction Co(dmgH)<SUB>2</SUB>+salenH<SUB>2</SUB>→Co(salen)+2 dmgH<SUB>2</SUB>, in which dmgH<SUB>2</SUB> is dimethylglyoxime and salenH<SUB>2</SUB> is <I>N</I>,<I>N</I>′-disalicylideneethylenediamine, was carried out in methanol at 22 °C. The reaction rate decreased with increased amounts of added pyridine, and reached a stationary value at the molar ratio [pyridine]/[Co(dmgH)<SUB>2</SUB>]=1. The form of the rate expression was d[Co(salen)]/d<I>t</I>=<I>k</I>[Co(dmgH)<SUB>2</SUB>] where the rate constant <I>k</I>=0.023 min<SUP>−1</SUP>.
