• The <I>pro</I>-<I>S</I> group of two enantiotopic carbonyl groups in <I>cis</I>-2,7-decalindione was preferentially reduced with <I>Rhodotorula rubra</I> to give (−)-(7<I>S</I>,9<I>R</I>,10<I>S</I>)-7-hydroxy-<I>cis</I>-2-decalone of high optical purity.
