New synthetic methods for the preparation of dimeric tungsten(V) complexes are described containing the core [W<SUB>2</SUB>XY(μ-S)<SUB>2</SUB>]<SUP>2+</SUP> (X=O,S; Y=O,S). The synthesized complexes have been characterized by a variety of spectroscopic techniques. [W<SUB>2</SUB>OS(μ-S)<SUB>2</SUB>(S<SUB>2</SUB>CNEt<SUB>2</SUB>)<SUB>2</SUB>] has been found to react with cyanide to give [W<SUB>2</SUB>O<SUB>2</SUB>(μ-S)<SUB>2</SUB>(S<SUB>2</SUB>CNEt<SUB>2</SUB>)<SUB>2</SUB>].
