(α-Arylacyl)triphenylgermanes were prepared from the corresponding esters with triphenylgermyllithium at room temperature in good yields. Photochemical decarbonylation of (α-arylacyl)triphenylgermanes took place under UV irradiation to quantitatively give (α-arylalkyl)triphenylgermanes without by-products.
