• The direct irradiation of dimethyl 2-oxohomobarrelene-6,7-dicarboxylates in chloroform gave indanone derivatives. A benzophenone-sensitized reaction gave a new tricyclic compound, dimethyl 5-oxotricyclo[4.3.0.0<SUP>2,9</SUP>]nona-3,7-diene-1,2-dicarboxylate, the formation of which was quenched by isoprene.
