Studies on Intermolecular Complex Formation. III. Crystal Structure of Thymine-<I>N</I>,<I>N</I>-Diethylmelamine Complex Monohydrate

The crystal and molecular structure of the thymine-<I>N</I>,<I>N</I>-diethylmelamine complex monohydrate has been solved by means of the direct method. The crystals are monoclinic, with the space group of P2<SUB>1</SUB>/c and with <I>a</I>=7.167, <I>b</I>=16.123, <I>c</I>=13.179 Å, and β=104.2°. The final <I>R</I>-factor for 1612 reflections is 0.087. These two components are hydrogen-bonded by a NH···N and two NH···O bonds with distances of 2.881, 2.821, and 3.006 Å. The complex formation ability for thymine and uracil has also been tested for some other organic compounds with amino and nitrogen heterocycles.
