It was shown that the <SUP>1</SUP>L<SUB>a</SUB> band of benzenoid hydrocarbons is in a linear relation to (<I>E</I><SUB>1⁄2</SUB><SUP>red</SUP>–<I>E</I><SUB>1⁄2</SUB><SUP>oxd</SUP>) value led from the half-wave reduction and oxidation potentials. The theoretical background and the binding conditions of the application of this relation were clearly given.
