• A series of new α,β-ethylenic sulfones were prepared by the condensation of <I>p</I>-chlorophenylsulfonylacetic acid with various aryl aldehydes. The UV and IR spectra of all these compounds were recorded. Their IR spectra exhibited medium to strong bands in the region 1000–975 cm<SUP>−1</SUP>, characteristic of <I>trans</I> ethylenic compounds.
