• Electric dipole moments at 25 °C in benzene have been measured for <I>cis</I>-2-styrylfurans and -styrylthiophenes which are chloro- and nitro-substituted in 2′-, 3′-, 4′-position. Results of dipole moment analyses in conjunction with UV spectroscopic data have been discussed in terms of preferred conformations for these compounds.
