The magnetic properties of [(H<SUB>2</SUB>O)<SUB>2</SUB>Ni{(OH)<SUB>2</SUB>Coen<SUB>2</SUB>}<SUB>2</SUB>](SO<SUB>4</SUB>)<SUB>2</SUB>·7H<SUB>2</SUB>O, [(H<SUB>2</SUB>O)<SUB>2</SUB>Co{(OH)<SUB>2</SUB>Coen<SUB>2</SUB>}<SUB>2</SUB>](SO<SUB>4</SUB>)<SUB>2</SUB>·5H<SUB>2</SUB>O, [(H<SUB>2</SUB>O)<SUB>2</SUB>Co{(OH)<SUB>2</SUB>Coen<SUB>2</SUB>}<SUB>2</SUB>](SO<SUB>4</SUB>)<SUB>2</SUB>·7H<SUB>2</SUB>O, and [(H<SUB>2</SUB>O)<SUB>2</SUB>Co{(OH)<SUB>2</SUB>Coen<SUB>2</SUB>}<SUB>2</SUB>](S<SUB>2</SUB>O<SUB>6</SUB>)<SUB>2</SUB>·5H<SUB>2</SUB>O were investigated on powder samples. The paramagnetism of these compounds was considered to be that of the central Ni<SUP>2+</SUP> or Co<SUP>2+</SUP>ion. From the fits of the experimental data with the calculated magnetic susceptibilities and the simulations of the ESR derivative curves, the ligand field parameters and <I>g</I>-values were determined. The ligand field around the Co<SUP>2+</SUP> ion in [(H<SUB>2</SUB>O)<SUB>2</SUB>Co{(OH)<SUB>2</SUB>Coen<SUB>2</SUB>}<SUB>2</SUB>](SO<SUB>4</SUB>)<SUB>2</SUB>·5H<SUB>2</SUB>O was concluded to be tetragonal and in the other samples the ligand fields at the central divalent ions were found to be rhombic.
