• The reaction between ethyl propiolate and copper(I) methyltrialkylborates was found to give the corresponding addition products which are converted by hydrolysis into the α,β-unsaturated acid esters in relatively good yields. The α,β-unsaturated esters thus obtained are selectively <I>E</I>-isomers.
