• 2-(4-<I>n</I>-Alkoxybenzylideneamino)anthracenes were synthesized, and the phase transitions were determined using a differential scanning calorimeter and a polarizing microscope. Methoxy through propoxy derivatives exhibit the monotropic nematic state, whereas the higher members show the enantiotropic nematic state.
