• By unambiguous syntheses, the structures of maturinone and cacalol were shown to be 3,5-dimethylnaphtho[2,3-<I>b</I>]furan-4,9-dione (<B>1</B>) and 5,6,7,8-tetrahydro-3,4,5-trimethylnaphtho[2,3-<I>b</I>]furan-9-ol (<B>2</B>), respectively. 3,8-Dimethylnaphtho[2,3-<I>b</I>]furan-4,9-dione (<B>1a</B>), an isomer of maturione, was also synthesized.
