The quinoline phosphorescence lifetime in several rigid media at 77 K has been found to be dependent on excitation wavelength. The change of lifetime is especially remarkable in hydroxylic solvents. This observation has been attributed to the inhomogeneous broadening of spectral lines caused by the distribution of solvent environments around quinoline molecules.
