• 2-Substituted 2-cyclopenten-1-ones, <I>i.e.</I>, 2-(6-methoxycarbonylhexyl)-2-cyclopentene-1-on and 2-butyl-2-cyclopenten-1-one were synthesized by cyclization of the corresponding 4-oxo-1-pentanals, which were obtained from 3-substituted 1,1-dimethoxy-2,4-pentadiones through several steps.
