Restricted rotation about a C<SUB>sp<SUP>3</SUP></SUB>–C(=O) bond in title compounds is found by <SUP>1</SUP>H NMR spectra of the <I>dl</I> forms. The barriers to rotation are obtained by the DNMR method to be <I>ca.</I> 15 kcal/mol. Infrared spectra which exhibit two conformations in the <I>dl</I> and the <I>meso</I> forms are also reported.
