• The reaction of iron pentacarbonyl with aryllithiums at −50∼60°C has yielded the corresponding aromatic aldehydes in good yields. 2,6-Dimethylbenzaldehyde (36.4%), 2,4-dimethylbenzaldehyde (65.4%), <I>p</I>-<I>t</I>-butylbenzaldehyde (47.0%), <I>o</I>-<I>t</I>-butylbenzaldehyde (54.3%), <I>p</I>-methoxybenzaldehyde (24.2%) and 2,4,6-trimethylbenzaldehyde (60.5%) have been prepared by this method.
