• The crystal structure of <I>trans</I>-[Co en<SUB>2</SUB> Cl<SUB>2</SUB>]·NO<SUB>3</SUB> has been determined by means of X-ray analysis. The space group is P2<SUB>1</SUB>/c with two formula units in a cell of the dimensions of <I>a</I>=6.33Å, <I>b</I>=9.25Å, <I>c</I>=10.62Å, and β=114.5°. The crystal is composed of [Co en<SUB>2</SUB> Cl<SUB>2</SUB>]<SUP>+</SUP> and NO<SUB>3</SUB><SUP>－</SUP>. The geometry of the complex ion herein determined is not significantly different from those reported before. It has been proposed that the nitrate ion is in a disordered arrangement.
