When ethyl linolenate is thermally denatured at 250°C for 40 hr. in a carbon dioxide stream, the product is toxic to rats. The origin of the toxicity of thermally denatured ethyl linolenate is a monomeric cyclization product, which is mainly a compound having a cyclohexene ring.
