Our classification consists of the size and site of the intracerebral hematoma and the existence and degree of the intraventricular hemorrhage examined in 144 cases, with regards to the prognosis quoad vitam et functionem. This classification is roughly correspondent to the angiographical classification; namely, basal ganglionic, subcortical, pontine and cerebellar hemorrhage. The basal ganglionic hemorrhage is subdivided into four types; (1) P (putaminal), (2) T (thalamic), (3) H (head of the caudate) and (4) C (posterior limb and radiation of the internal capsule and cauda of the caudate) type. The arabic numerals"1"and"2"are added to demonstrate the size of diameters of the hematomas;"1"for smaller than two cm and"2"for larger than two cm in the H, C, T types. In the P type"1","2"and"3"are added, namely,"1"for smaller than four cm,"2"for larger than four cm without extension to the thalamus and"3"for the massive hematoma with sufficient extension to both of the putamen and the thalamus. The intraventricular hemorrhage (IVH) is also divided; V0: no IVH, V1: IVH without ventricular casting, V2: one ventricle being casted, V3 two or more ventricles being casted. This classification is useful not only for neurora-diological description but for choice of adequate treatments of the patients.
