Comparative studies on the rats were undertaken by administering the thyroid gland powder to successive generations. These rats were offsprings of F<SUB>1</SUB> ; 25 cases, F<SUB>2</SUB> ; 19 cases, F<SUB>3</SUB> ; 21 cases, F<SUB>4</SUB> ; 25 cases cases and F<SUB>5</SUB> ; 48 cases respectively. Estimations were made of body weight, histological examinations, tissue measurements of the thyroid and pituitary glands plasma PBI, total blood cholesterol and I<SUP>131</SUP> uptake of the thyroid gland. There Comparative studies were made with 25 control rats.<BR>The results are summarized as follows : <BR>1. The growth weight of offsprings of F<SUB>4</SUB> and F<SUB>5</SUB> male groups was show as compared with the control.<BR>2. In the thyroid glands of offsprings, the histological findings showed a smaller follicular size, reduced collagen quantity, increased eosinophilic staining with marginal vacuolization, and an increased (length) of follicular cells.<BR>As to follicular formations, the number of cells tended to be less. However, the cellular area of follicles and the length showed a tendency as to increase generations followed.<BR>3. In the pituitary body, these offsprings showed basophilia and eosinophilia but with basophilic swelling.<BR>4. Serum PBI showed an increasing trend with successive generations.<BR>5. Total blood cholesterol did not show any definite change in the offsprings.<BR>6. Thyroid uptake of I<SUP>131</SUP> of one and 24 hour values were increased as compared with the controls in both F<SUB>1</SUB> and F<SUB>2</SUB>.<BR>The above findings seem to indicate the increasing hyperfunction of the thyroid when the extract was administered on rat offsprings for successive generations.
