This study was designed to clarify the effect and mode of action of the sex hormone preparation upon the essential hypertension both in clinical and experimental ways.
Generally speaking, in the advanced age with the hypertension was shown the hypercorticoidism, as compared with the normal subject.
Among 27 cases of the essential hypertension, the depot preparation of sex hormone was effective of 7 cases and less effective of 8 cases. The effectivity seems to be higher in the advanced age.
It seems that the sex hormone preparation administered may reduce the hypercorticoidism in hypertensive patients through the inhibition of ACTH production from the pituitary and the activation of gonads.
The administration of Androgen Depot (100mg) depressed the blood pressure of a normal rabbit.
The sex hormone itself seems to act as a hypotensive agent.
In the thirty-five rabbits with DCA-salt hypertension Androgen-Depot (50mg) was all effective in reducing the hypertension. In those with the renal hypertension, after Goldblatt the sex hormone preparation ' was not effective except one. In those with the experimental hypertension the sex hormone was likely to act as an inhibitory agent against the adrenal cortex.
For the mentioned above it is concluded that the sex hormone preparation may be effective to the hypertension of essential type, of the advanced age or obese subjects, in climacteric stage, and due to endocrine disorders, whereas ineffective in those who are hypertensive due to renal or cardiac damage.
