To make researches in the adaptation of body to environmental changes and stress caused by various stresser, such as muscular exercise, pulmonary tuberculosis, laparatomy, trauma, thracoplasty, low pressure environment and administration of ACTH, I investigated the change of patterns of plasma proteins by means of electrophoresis and compared them with the indexes for adaptation response.
The results were as follows :
1). Bicycle ergometer experiment caused no remarkable changes of plasma proteins except an increase of γ-glob.
2). In minimal pulmonary tuberculosis, the amounts of total proteins decreased below normal, andβ-and γ-glob. increased.
In comparison, in moderately advanced pulmonary tuberculosis, total proteins and albumine decreased slightly more, and in globulin pattern, α-β- and γ-globulin increased more.
In far advanced pulmonary tuberculosis, total proteins and albumine were very decreased, α-, γ-globuline and fibrinogen remarkably increased.
3). The pattern of plasma proteins showed a decrease of albumine and an increase of globuline, particularly of γ-globuline on the 3rd day after laparatomy, and trauma.
4). The changes in pattern of plasma protein in thracoplasty were classified into the following three groups. ;
A ; in which A/G was normal before operation, whereas decrease in albumine and increase in total globuline was observed after surgical operation.
B ; in which A/G was very low before operation, whereas increase in albumine and decrease in total globuline was observed after operation.
C ; in which A/G was low before operation, whereas decrease in both albumine and globuline was observed after operation.
In all cases, however, it was noted that the γ-globuline fraction was definitely lowered, suggesting that the surgical operation had a catabolic effect.
5). In cases of low pressure environment, muscular exercise and surgical operation, similar changes of the pattern were also observed.
6). In the changes of the pattern of blood plasma proteins after ACTH administration, total protein concentration was hardly altered, but albumine decreased, α-, β-globuline and fibrinogen showed irregular variation, with no definite tendencies γ-globuline increased in each case ; and A/G ratio decreased.
7). O(Y) increased more in cases of thracoplasty than in cases of laparatomy, and in each case patterns of plasma proteins behaved in almost the same manner, except that γ-globuline decreased in the former and increased in the latter after operation.
As mentioned above, the changes of patterns of plasma proteins cased by various stresses were observedand it was found that patterns of plasma proteins and particulary γ-globuline, varied according to the intensity of the stress and were closely related to theadrenal-pituitary system. As a result of these observations, it is suggested that the changes of plasma proteins might be used as one of the indexes for adaptation response.
