I have performed the experiment concerning the influences of fructose upon the amount of vitamin B1 and pyruvic acid in the urine and have found the followimg results.<BR>1. When the healthy individuals fasted are injected intravenously with the fructose early in the morning, the amount of vitamin B1 and pyruvic acid in their urine are decreased.<BR>2. When patients suffering from pulmonary tuberculosis as well as liver and gallbladder diseases are injected with fructose in the same manner, the amount of vitamin B and pyruvic acid in their urine are increased in the majority of cases, contraversely to the findings in the healthy subjects. Such tuberculous patients are considered to have insufficiency of the hepatic functions.<BR>3. The results of Sawada's reaction do not always coincide with those of the quantitative estimation of pyruvic acid in the urine, further, negativity of Sawada's reaction after the administration of vitamin B1 is also found in the case of liver and gallbladder diseases, therefor the differentiation between the liver and galldladder disease and vitamin B1-deficiency may be difficult with his method.
