Urinary excretion of beta-aminoisobutyric acid (BAIBA) was measured during three weeks following whole body irradiation (250-4000 R) in rabbits.
Decrease in BAIBA was observed in a few days after irradiation in the range of 250 to 1000 R, while it increased in the same days after irradiation above 2000 R.
These results were analysed by the present knowledge in this field and were reasonably understood as follows. Relatively smaller dose of radiation inhibits the synthesis of thymidine precursor, however larger dose results in the destruction of the cells to increase the pool of thymidine.
