A protein fraction with fibrinolytic activity and a white globulin substance without this activity obtained by its treatment with vitamin C were separated from the canine plasma diluted 10 times with distilled water and precipitated at pH 5.9 by the addition of acetic acid. Separately, Caeruloplasmin, copper combining glycoprotein was separated from the porcine plasma. These substances were administered on rabbits and histopathological investigations were made on their spleen. The results obtained were as follows :
1. Rabbits received the administration of the protein fraction with fibrinolytic activity presented a picture of hemolytic anemia and later a picture of the hypoplasia in the bone marrow. While, the spleen showed in many cases congestion, dilatation of the sinus, swelling of small lymphnodes, deposition of hemosiderine, hypertrophy and hyperplasia of reticulocytes just as those seen in the case of acquired hemolytic anemia, phagocytosis of erythrocytes by hypertrophied cells and thee hyperplasia of the endothelial cells of the sinus. However, extramedullary hematopoiesis was not recognized.
2. Rabbits received the administration of the vitamin C treated white globulin substance did not show the picture of hemolytic anemia. In the bone marrow, they showed a picture of hyperplasia, while in the spleen no remarkable change was recognized in the lymphatic folicles, sinus etc. Only in emaciated cases, extramedullary hematopoiesis was recognized.
3. Rabbits received the administration of caeruloplasmin showed the proliferation of erythroblasts in the bone marrow when it was in the reduced form and the proliferation of the young granulocytes when it was in the oxidized form but extramedullary hematopoiesis was not recognized. They were free from the follicular hypertrophy, dilatation of the sinus and also from the picture of hemorrhage and necrosis. Only in a few cases, mild deposition of hemosiderine and the phagocytosis of erythrocytes by reticulocytes were recognized.
4. Animals received the vitamin C treated substance were either free from hemosiderine deposition or if present, it was of mild one.
