• Although dysphagia has various causes, it can be classified into two groups, static and dynamic.Static dysphagia is caused by organic abnormality of the passageway, while dynamic dysphagia is caused by impairment of transportation movement, which is often seen in neuromuscular diseases. We analysed the laryngeal movements of four patients with a diagnosis of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis in the Department of Neurology, Kitasato University Hospital.Forward movement was found to be impaired in spite of intact vertical movement of the larynx in these cases.X-ray cinefluorography provides much information which is helpful in the treatment of dysphagia.
