To effectively treat and control the leachate generated from a solid waste landfill, predicting the quantity and quality is essential. To elucidate the mechanism of contaminant transport in a solid waste landfill layer, it is also important to understand that the temporal change of the solid phase results from the leaching of contaminants in a solid waste landfill layer. This study, drawing upon the commonality of the above two points, aims to investigate the leaching properties of contaminants, and to estimate quantitatively the leaching rate coefficients of contaminants.<BR>Data from column experiments and shaking tests showed that Cl-, Na+, K+, Ca2+, TOC, and T-N leached from solid waste in large quantities. pH tended to influence the leachings of Na+, K+, and Ca2+significantly, while temperature affected those of Cl-and TOC. Results from estimated leaching rate coefficients showed that the leaching rate coefficients of all contaminants increased proportionately to the approximate square of flow rate.
