To obtain the adaptability to a design concept written by a letter including design evaluation words, a designer have to combine a huge form elements by trying and erring with depending upon his intuition since the beginning of it. The knowledge of the cause relationship between form elements and the evaluation words would help him to make a good design. The purpose of this work is to make the model that shows the relationship between cognitive parts (;form elements) and design evaluation words through the case study of the mobile phone, and to apply a product design. In the first half of this paper, the process to extract twenty nine cognitive parts and the twelve evaluation words by both questionnaires and the interview survey using thirty two mobile phone products was discussed in order to prepare for the analysis of the relationship. As a result, twelve data tables were obtained for both Quantification 2 of Multivariate Statistical Analysis (MSA) which is used so far for this kind of the study and Rough sets by use of Shan & Ziarko algorithm. In order to resolve the significant problem how a lot of reducts rules computed by Rough sets are examined, the new way to analyze these reducts rules has been proposed in the latter half. As the result of the proposed analysis, it is found that the new way was more effective for a design work and Rough sets by it was superior to Quantification 2 in the analysis. The cause relationship in the mobile phone was considerably and concretely cleared by the Rough sets, because the result could show obtained patterns composed of these cognitive parts to suit the design concept.
