• The authors measured the extension/flexion muscle strength of the bilateral knee joints in the unilateral hip joint disease. The cases were all female and were classified into three groups; 1) Arthorodesis group (4 cases) 2) Varus osteotomy group (8 cases) and 3) Normal group (10 cases). There was no significant difference in the muscle strength of the knee between arthorodesis group and varus osteotomy group, but both groups showed significantly less strength than normal group. The results in the affected knee showed significant difference between arthrodesis group and varus osteotomy group only in the knee extension.
