In order to know the mobility of the Japanese talocrural joint, 176 normal ankle joints were examined by the "Der Talo-Crurale Winkel (T. C. W)" method, after J. Krämer, and the results were compared with those of Germany.The results obtained were as follows:(1) Mean T. C. W. was 75.5° at neutral-0-position, being 46.8° at maximum dorsiflexion, and 114.0° at maximum plantar flexion, and the mean R. O. M. was 67.3°.(2) T. C. W. in females were larger than those in males at plantar flexion.(3) R. O. M. of the talocrural joint decreased with age, especially between 25 and 50 years of age.(4) Japanese R. O. M. of the talocrural joint were larger than German R. O. M. with an average of 7.1° in males and 4.4° in females, the difference resulting from the larger dorsiflexion in the former.
