Supracondylar fracture of the femur following total knee arthroplasty is a serious complicatication. Treatment of these fractures is controversial and difficult because of the presence of bone cement and prosthetic components. A 75-year-old woman, who had been treated with bilateral total knee arthroplasties, fell on the knee and sustained supracondylar fracture of the left femur. Skeletal traction was applied for one month and plaster cast was done for another month. However, sound healing of the fracture could not be obtained. Revision of the arthroplasty was carried out by use of a femoral component with a metal rod to stabilize the fracture.
