Evaluation of knee cruciate ligaments injuries using positive single contrast arthrography, a retrospective study.

To evaluate the accuracy of positive single contrast arthrography for assessing the status of the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) and the posterior cruciate ligament (PCL), we reviewed retrospectively 41 arthrograms of normal ACL and normal PCL, which were examined by injury mechanism, clinical findings and/or arthroscopy, 30 arthrograms of injured ACL and 15 arthrograms of injured PCL which were examined by arthroscopy or arthrotomy. Using our criteria for evaluation of radiographic appearance, normal ACL arthrograms were subdivided into 2 groups, abnormal ACL arthrograms 3 groups, normal PCL arthrograms 2 groups and abnormal PCL arthrograms 1 group. The results were analysed to determine sensitivity, specificity and diagnostic accuracy etc.. The first, the second and the third 96.7%, 95.1%, and 95.8% respectively in ACL and 46.7%, 90.2%, and 78.6% respectively in PCL.
